What should you know before your journey to Costa Rica?

  • Make sure your passport is valid for six months before booking your plane ticket

  • Save your flight confirmation number and hotel/Air BnB confirmation number on your smartphone

  • If paying with a debit/credit card, contact the issuing bank in advance to advise them on your upcoming dental procedure in Costa Rica with the amount you’ll be charging

  • Regardless of your phone company, you may receive incoming calls but not make outgoing calls.  You may purchase a burner phone from Amazon for $25 with an open line and get a local prepaid SIM at San Jose’s airport or any convenience store card during your visit.

What to expect on your first day?

  • Regular Anesthesia patients may eat a regular meal before the surgery

  • IV Sedation patients must fast from food and drinks for 8 hours prior to the surgery

  • Before/After photo

  • Fill out the Patient Information Form, Medical History Form, and Consent Form

  • 3D Scan before/after the surgery

  • Pre-surgical consultation with Dr. Urzola on the Treatment Plan

  • Purchase your antibiotics, pain killers, and anti-inflammatories at the Pharmacy on the Ground Floor.  Instructions on dosages will be printed out for you.

  • Rest. Have a bite to eat. Take your medication.  Use the cold compress that will be provided to you.

What to expect on your second day?

  • Get more rest

  • Eat gently

  • Take your medication as instructed

  • You will be notified by the Administrator on your next appointment

What to expect on your third, fourth, and fifth day?

  • You will receive your new set of Acrylic uppers and lowers

  • Multiple adjustments during your Aesthetic Trials
  • Practice smiling again with your new teeth.  Congratulations, you finally did it!

  • You must complete the 7-day antibiotic treatment

What to expect in the next four months?

  • As you heal, you will feel stronger and more confident, but don’t let your guard down

  • Follow the Soft Diet guidelines religiously to allow your dental implants to fuse solidly into your jaw bone

  • Use your judgement on the type of food to eat.  Think of yourself as a toddler learning how to eat solids.  The smaller your bites are, the better for you

  • If you notice that a stitch hasn’t dissolved yet after ten days, sterilize tweezers and you can pull it out yourself or you can ask someone to do it for you

  • If you feel sensitivity in any area and you can see that it’s not infected, go to the drugstore and buy ODDENT HYALURONIC ACID ORAL RINSE to help reduce pain or inflammation.  Rinse with 10 ml for a few minutes 3x/day, as needed.

  • If you see something white in your gums, that is a sign that your gums are healing properly

  • If a temporary crown accidentally pops out from your temporaries, get crazy glue and follow instructions to glue the crown back.  Remember that this is only a temporary and is not cause for panic

Do I have to schedule a second visit?

  • Your Acrylic temporaries are designed to last only for a maximum period of six months

  • Organize ten days from your calendar once you reach your four-month mark

  • Bring a loved one or a friend and explore Costa Rica over the weekend

  • You will be notified by the Administrator regarding the appointments

  • No, you cannot postpone or cancel an existing appointment because you’re having too much fun at the beach.  Your dental work must be your first priority

  • Be 100% proactive with the design elements of your permanent Zirconia uppers and/or lowers.  The warranty only covers fissures or cracks of any kind and not aesthetic changes.  This is the why the multiple Aesthetic Trials are critical prior to the placement of the final Zirconia arches.

What long-term care should I have?

  • Don’t go back to your old habits

  • Protect your investment by living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining proper daily dental hygiene by rinsing, brushing, and using the oral irrigator which we will provide you

  • Visit your local Specialist to give your uppers and/or lowers a professional annual cleaning or come back and visit us in Costa Rica and we will do it for you

  • Smile, be happy, and thank you for entrusting us with your journey! PURA VIDA!

"Dr Urzola is a very caring and compassionate doctor. He made us feel welcome and safe in a foreign environment. He is very proficient in his practice. We are looking forward to returning to Costa Rica to complete the implant process"
